Programming a Universal Remote Control
Syncing a universal garage door opener remote to a linear garage opener requires a few simple steps. Although the buttons of a universal remote may differ slightly from those of a linear opener, the process is almost always similar.
Step 1: Activate the LEARN Button on the Unit
The linear garage door opener LEARN button allows the pairing of a remote. Examine the motor unit and find the button labeled with LEARN, PROGRAM or SYNC, usually found below the antenna.
Press the LEARN button until the LED light indicator flashes or becomes steady. Some models may emit a beeping sound. Indicator lights or sounds vary between different garage door opener models.
Step 2: Press and Hold the Remote Button
Depending on the brand or model, a remote control may have two or three buttons. Pick the one you want to pair, then press and hold it until the garage door opener unit displays a visual or audio confirmation.
The hold time varies for every remote control. Just wait for the confirmation sound or light before releasing the button.
Step 3: Test the Remote Control
Press the programmed remote control button to test if it paired successfully. The gate opener should respond by opening or closing the garage door.
If the motor doesn’t respond, repeat the process from Step 1. Follow the same steps to program another garage door opener and the remaining remote control buttons.
The Linear Garage Door Opener Is Not Working
If, after repeating the steps, the devices won’t pair, check for the following possible causes:
- Insufficient or low battery for the remote control
- Existing programs or settings in the remote that must be reset to default
- Obstruction between the motor and the device
- Not pressing and holding the remote button—A quick press and release of the buttons resets or deletes an existing Linear garage door opener code
